Just Imagine ...

Updated: Sep 27, 2025

"...and among the lampstands was one like the Son of Man, dressed in a robe and with a golden sash wrapped around His chest. The hair of His head was white as wool - white as snow - and His eyes like a fiery flame. His feet were like fine bronze as it is fired in a furnace, and His voice is like the sound of cascading waters. He had seven stars in His right hand; a sharp double-edged sword came from His mouth, and His face was shining like the sun at full strength." Revelation 1:13-16

The other day I was driving in my car and the song "I Can Only Imagine" came on the radio. I had heard this song so many times before, but for some reason, this time was different. I was really concentrating on the lyrics, not just singing along out of memory.

The song lyrics describe all the ways we may react when we get to Heaven, and all the things we may feel:

"Surrounded by Your glory

What will my heart feel?

Will I dance for You Jesus

Or in awe of You be still?

Will I stand in Your presence

Or to my knees, will I fall?

Will I sing hallelujah?

Will I be able to speak at all?

I can only imagine"

While pondering these lyrics, my mind started imagining what it will be like to meet Jesus in Heaven. What would I do? How would I feel? Would I bow down in reverence? Would I be frozen in awe-struck wonder? Would I feel a sigh of relief knowing all the pain of this world has been washed away? The truth is, I will never know until that day and moment come, but for now, I imagine myself running up and giving Jesus a big hug. Thanking him for all of the things He has done for me - for always being a safe place to hide when the stressors of this world become too much to handle, for providing peace and comfort in moments of sadness and hardship, for guiding me down this winding road of life, for being the big brother I always yearned for when I was younger, for never giving up on me, and for always loving me unconditionally. Thinking about that moment and giving him the biggest bear hug puts a huge smile on my face.

Journal Prompt - Those verses in Revelation offer us just the slightest glimpse of what we have waiting for us in Heaven. Take some quiet time alone with God to ponder these things. How would you react in that moment when you first see your Savior face to face. Just imagine... What it will be like? What would you do? What would you feel? Let your imagination run wild thinking about this amazing moment that we will all get to experience someday.
