The Flower Fades

"The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever." Isaiah 40:8
A few years ago, my dad bought me an amaryllis flower. It is a beautiful pink and white flower that has blossomed every year since I received it. The leaves grow and are a vibrant shade of green for a few months before the plant goes dormant again, but the flowers only last for about a week or two. I keep this amaryllis on my kitchen table to enjoy the beauty of it. This past spring, as I watched the flowers start to fade away, I was reminded of this verse from Isaiah 40:8 - "The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever."
This verse is a great reminder that although the beautiful things of this world may fade away, God and His word will always be there and will never change. There are so many things in this world that we cherish deeply - relationships with loved ones, friends who become like family, jobs and careers that we enjoy, hobbies and activities that bring us joy - but what happens when those things fade? What happens when we lose a loved one? What happens when a relationship ends? What happens when friendships wane? What do we do if we lose a job or need to find a new one? What happens when we are no longer able to enjoy the things we once loved?
This verse is here to remind us that things fading away in our lives is inevitable, Nothing here on earth will last forever, it will all fade away. It is important to cherish everything and everyone that we have here and now, because just like the amaryllis flower is here one day and gone tomorrow, we never know when something from our lives will fade away. But we have hope, when things fade away, we can remember the promise in Isaiah that God's word is eternal and His word is always there to comfort us when things of this world fade away.
Journal Prompt - When have you experienced something fading in your life? Were you able to lean on God and His word to help you get through it? How can you lean on God's word next time you experience something fading from you life?
"The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever." Isaiah 40:8
